When feelings of devotion come in prayer, accept them from God. But if they don't come, humble yourself and be at peace. Dryness in prayer is more fruitful than consolation since it gives more opportunity to exercise your resignation to God's will.                        

PRAYER:  Dear God, I have often taken feelings of devotion in prayer as a sign of your presence and then become discouraged on those occasions when they were absent. Let me trust that you are always there, especially in darkness and dryness. Take away from me the tendency to measure my inner growth and let me abandon myself wholly to you.
